1999 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine was awarded to Gunter Blobel,a professor in Rockefeller University, for the discovery that proteins have intrinsic signals that govern their transport and localization in the cell. Here is one of his paper published in Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA described that karyopherin beta 2 mediates nuclear import of a mRNA binding protein.
