Specific transcription factors belong to a few families

  • Leucine zippers provide dimerization interactions for some eucaryotic transcription factors
  • The Leucine Zipper motif was first recognized in a yeast transcription factor GCN4, the mammalian transcription factor C/EBP, and three oncogene products, Fos , Jun and Myc
  • The original model was first proposed by Steven Mcnight in 1988
  • The modified model was proposed by Peter Kim in 1989
