While the PUMA system clearly utilizes and to a large extent depends on the availability of an encoded form of metabolism of the sort contributed by Evgeni Selkov, Dr. Selkov should not be viewed as responsible in any way for the contents of PUMA other than the metabolic charts.
One central goal of PUMA is to automatically generate functional overviews suitable for over 200 distinct organisms. This may or may not be a reasonable goal, but we certainly cannot yet produce a reasonably error-free set of functional overviews. On the other hand, we do believe that what is already available constitutes a useful foundation to build upon. It is in this spirit that we have made PUMA available to the research community. We realize that PUMA contains numerous errors and omissions, and we are attempting to correct these as quickly as possible. Errors in the metabolic charts should be reported directly to Evgeni Selkov, while errors in the other aspects of the system should be reported to Ross Overbeek.
